China Minority Travel

China has the most fascinating ethnic minority culture with 56 officially recognized ethnic groups and dozens of them remain to-be-identified. The “Han” Chinese  is regarded as China’s majority, while the remaining 55 ethnic groups as ethnic minorities. Of the 55 ethnic minorities, 53 of them have their own oral languages and 22 of them have their own written languages. Many of the ethnic minority communities are located in relatively remote regions where the geography isolates different groups from one another. Additionally, their seclusion from urban centers have enabled them to preserve their culture very well. Almost each ethnic minority group has their own style of dress, architecture, languages, festivals and traditions. Our China Minority Travel Program aims to unveil the vibrant culture of China’s different groups though elaborately planned tours. These minority tours aim to present the best of the rich ethnic minority culture in China.
 

1. Observe local festivals and customs.
Our ethnic minority tours will be arranged during local holidays so that visitors can see local participants dressed in their best traditional outfits. During our visit, there will be many opportunities to observe traditional dances, songs, live creation of fork arts, hand-weaving and ceremonies.

2. Interact with locals. 
In our Chinese ethnic minority culture tours, we will visit local villages and even eat with local families. Our goal is to facilitate in-depth cultural exchange opportunities for guests to see the lives of ethnic minority people. Many people from these communities are quite hospitable towards guests that come to visit. Our visit will never intrude on their personal privacy and it is one of our key principles to ask for their permission first and pay for the meals. It is our sincerest belief that interactions such as these will build bridges between people who would otherwise likely never have the chance.

3. Benefit to the locals.
Many ethnic groups in China have maintained self-sufficiency for many centuries because of their remote location. They are very skilled at making tools, handicrafts and clothes with the material produced in the community. On one of our ethnic minority tours in China, we pay close attention to showcasing traditional craftsmanship in the villages that we visit. By purchasing local goods, visitors are supporting these traditional art styles and making them sustainable trade for locals to make a livelihood.
