Location
Pingyao Ancient City is located in the central part of Shanxi Province on theloess plateau China. Pingyao county has its own train station and high-speed train station. So it is easy to reach from big cities like Beijing, Tianjing, Zhengzhou, Xi’an etc.. If you travel by air, fly to Beijing, Datong,Taiyuan,Zhengzhou then take a train to Pingyao are the choices.
History
Pingyao City was built during the reign of King Xuan of the Western Zhou dynasty (827 BC to 782 BC).
Pingyao is known as one of the "four best-preserved ancient cities" and one of the only two ancient cities in China that have been declared as a world cultural heritage.

The ancient city wall
The city wall is an important military fortification in ancient China.It is said that the city wall in Pingyao was built in the period of Zhou dynasty, with a history of more than 2,700 years.At that time, the city wall was very low pilers.
In order to meet the needs of military defense, in the third year of Hongwu (1370 AD), the old walls were rebuilt and covered with bricks.After that th wall had been repaired for ten times.In the 43rd year of the reign of Emperor Kangxi (AD 1703), the city wall was made more magnificent before the emperor's western tour to Pingyao. Over the past 500 years, there have been 26 repairs in the Ming and Qing dynasties , so the city walls of the Ming and Qing dynasties have been maintained.With a total perimeter of 6,163 meters and a height of about 12 meters, the area inside the ancient city wall is about 2.25 square kilometers.

Ming and Qing Street (South Street) is a part of central axis of the ancient city. It is one of the most important and prosperous commercial districts, reflecting the brilliance of the ancient city culture.On this ancient street, which is more than 400 meters long, there are 78 ancient shops, including ticket number, bank, pawnshop, medicine shop, butcher shop, cigarette shop, grocery shop, silk and satin shop, etc.
Rishengchang Bank
Founded in 1823, it was invested by Li Dajin, a wealthy businessman.The general office is located in the west street, south of the bustling market in Pingyao county. Covering an area of more than 1600 square meters, with effective land use and distinct functions area arranging. It is the pioneer of China's national banking industry, and once controlled the economic lifeline of the whole Qing dynasty in the 19th century.Its branches have once spread all over the country and as far as Europe, America, southeast Asia and other countries.
