Things to know about Mount Siguniang
Location
Siguniang Mountain Scenic Area is located in Siguniang Mountain Town, Xiaojin County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. It belongs to Qionglai Mountain range on the qinghai-tibet plateau, 220km from Chengdu and nearly 4 to 5 hours drive from Chengdu to Siguniang.Siguniang Mountain is adjacent to wolong national nature reserve.
Geographic Condition
Located at the junction of Xiaojin county and Wenchuan county of Aba Tibetan and Qiang autonomous prefecture, Siguniang is the highest peak of the Qionglai Mountain System on the eastern edge of Hengduan Mountains. It is in the transition zone from Qinghai-Tibet Plateau to Sichuan basin. The main types of this area are alpine and glacial landform.The Siguniang mountain area is steep, high in the northeast and low in the southwest.River cut force is strong, making valleys deep and steep. The relative height difference is up to 2000 ~ 2500 meters.
Legend Story
Siguniang mountain is treated as a sacred mountain by local Tibetans. Legend said that four beautiful and kind-hearted girls in order to protect their beloved giant pandas, fought a fierce demons and sacrificed themselves, and finally became four beautiful peaks, namely four girls mountain.
What to expect in Siguniang Mountain?
Four Sister Mountain
Mount Siguniang, namely four sister in Chinese is a set of mountains range with four almost parallel peaks from north to south. The four peaks are
• Daguniang Peak（1st peak）
• Erguniang Peak (2nd peak)
• Sanguniang Peak（3rd Peak）
• Yaomei Peak (4th Peak) 幺妹峰
Daguniang Peak
Located in the south of four girls mountain scenic area. Its elevation is 5355 meters. Above 4000 meters, the site seeing are the alpine meadow, low shrub forest, and wild flowers ,yaks and horses everywhere. There is a small amount of snow on the mountain in summer, and it snows from October to April of the next year.
Erguniang Peak
Erguniang , located in the south of the Siguniang mountain scenic area, is adjacent to Daguniang mountain, with an elevation of 5,454 meters. It is located at the junction of Xiaojin county and Wenchuan county in Aba Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. It is one of the highest peak of Qionglai mountain in Hengduan mountain ranges.Erguniang peak is surrounded with green trees and green grass meadow every summer. On the mountain, you can see rare animals living in the valleys of the Qinghai-tibet plateau.Erguniang mountain is steep, narrow and covered with snow all year round.
Sanguniang Peak
Sanguniang peak, is 5,664 meters above sea level. Beautiful scenery, complicated landform, rich animal and plant resources are combined here. Among which the giant panda is the most famous, plus the rich Tibetan and Qiang ethnic culture.Sanguniang mountain peak is sharp, narrow like a castle, and being snowy throughout the year.The world conservation and research center for the giant panda - Wolong nature reserve is located in the Sanguniang mountain peak scenic area.
Yaomei Peak
Yaomei peak, located in the north of the Sigungshan Mountain Scenic Area, is about 200 kilometers west of Chengdu, 6,250 meters above sea level, second highest only to Gongga mountain. Known as the "Queen of mountains in Sichuan" and the "Sacred Mountain of the East", Yaomei Peak is most referred to represent the whole Four sister mountains in most occasion.
Three Valleys
Shuangqiao Valley (Double bridge Valley)
Shuangqiaogou, located in the northwest of Siguniang mountain scenic area, is 34.8 kilometers in length and cover 216.6 square kilometers.There are mountains on both sides of the gully. In Shuangqiao gully with an elevation of around 3000 meters, there are not only the common birch forest, poplar forest and green maple forest in the low mountain belt, but also the spruce, fir and redwood in the high place as well as the sea-buckthorn, shrub and larch. It is the only valley in Siguniang mountains which has public tourism buses running.
Changping Valley
Changping Valley is a wonderful place for hiking and also to experience Tibtan ethnic culture. Plantation species are various kinds distributing in different elevations.Changping Valley is also a paradise for outdoor sports lovers, because it is an important camp base for climbing 3rd peak and 4th peaks, as well as an ideal place for ice climbing. At the same time, there is also a famous hiking-route from Changping Valley to Bipeng Valley in Li county.
Haizi Valley
Haizi refers lakes in Chinese. So Haizi Valley was named because it has many beautiful mirror-like lakes inside it. It is a heaven for outdoor hiking and mountain climbers.It’s elevation is higher than the other two valleys. So please prepare well before you go.
